EGYPTIANS HOLDS SECOND PHASE OF PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS

Egyptians went to the polls on Monday for the second phase of parliamentary elections across 13 governorates with more than 34 million people eligible to vote.
The fresh round of voting comes after authorities annulled results from parts of the first phase held on November 10 and 11, following widespread reports of irregularities ranging from campaign advertising violations to counting errors. President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi ordered a review of the incidents, and a rerun has been scheduled by the National Elections Authority for 19 out of the 70 affected constituencies in December.
A total of 568 seats in the lower chamber are up for grabs, split evenly between political parties and independent candidates, with more than 2,500 independents in the race. President el-Sissi will appoint an additional 28 lawmakers, bringing the total to 596.
the Egyptian presidency said the International observers, teams from the Arab League and the African Union, are monitoring the process. The new parliament is expected to be sworn in before the current assembly’s term expires in January.
