The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has directed the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority to place 46 contacts of Nigeria’s confirmed Ebola patient on a 21-day no-fly list.
The directive followed a meeting with the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, on measures to contain the outbreak.
The patient, who tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola on October 20, reportedly travelled from Uganda to Nigeria. Her symptoms began on October 7, and she later sought treatment at a private health facility in Abuja.
The minister said arrangements were being made to isolate the 46 contacts pending confirmation of their infection status. He also directed the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria to strengthen Ebola surveillance and response measures at all international airports.
