CAMEROONIANS PROTEST THE RE-ELECTION OF PRESIDENT PAUL BIYA IN DOUALA

Violence has erupted in Cameroon’s commercial capital, Douala, for a second day following the announcement of President Paul Biya re-election for an eighth term in office.
The 92-year-old leader, who has been in power since 1982, was declared the winner by the Constitutional Council on Monday, October 27, a result strongly contested by opposition candidate, Issa Tchiroma Bakary.
Protests quickly turned violent, with reports of gunfire in several parts of Douala. To contain the situation, Security forces have been deployed across the city to restore order amid widespread anger and destruction of property.
Many residents expressed frustration over Biya’s decades-long rule, stating the election outcome has deepened public disillusionment and unrest.
