No fewer than fourteen shops have been engulfed in fire, with properties worth millions of Naira destroyed at Oja Oba Atakunmosa market Ilesha.
The incident happened around 10:30pm on Friday 21st and 6:30pm on Saturday 22nd November. It was gathered that the fire outbreak was caused by electric surge after shop owners left their switch on
The Iyaloja of Atakunmosa, Chief Mrs Hanah Olabisi Awe and chairman Atakunmosa market, Mr Babatunde Obenbe explained that they were alerted by the night guards. They both admonished shop owners to switch off their electronic appliances before going home as they appeal to the government for assistance.
The coordinator of the market, Pastor Amos Olumide described the situation as unfortunate, adding that one of his sons was a victim. However, he called on the government and philanthropists to assist those who lost their properties in the fire, urging them not to lose hope
While speaking with the shop owners, Thompson Oluwole a fashion designer, Animasahun Modinat Abolaji (Provisions seller) and elderly woman, Juliana Kolade expressed sadness over their loss. They called on the government and well-meaning individuals to come to their aid in order to redeem their lost properties.
