Federal Government has been tasked to deploy security personnel to farming communities across the country to ensure the safety of farmers and improve food production.
An agricultural expert, Ambassador Segun Alabi, in a media chat with members of the House of Representatives Press Corps in Abuja, described Nigeria’s vast arable land, favorable climate, and abundant labor force present an opportunity for sustainable economic growth.
With the prevailing insecurity in rural areas, alabi lamented the event has continued to deter farmers from cultivating land, hindering the sector’s full potential in addressing unemployment and contributing to economic development.
As Agriculture remains the country’s economy largest sector, contributing an average of 24% to the nation’s GDP and employing over 36% of the labor force
The food expert maintained that national food security and economic prosperity are achievable through a secure and vibrant agricultural sector.
