Kenyan Activist Boniface Mwangi Arrested on Terrorism Charges Following Deadly Protests

Prominent Kenyan human rights activist, Boniface Mwangi has been arrested over terrorism related charges in connection with the June 25 anti-government protests ignited by the death of political blogger Albert Ojwang in police custody in Nairobi had left 19 people dead.
Authorities alleged Mwangi played a role in facilitating acts of terrorism during the demonstrations, which were driven by public outrage over economic hardship and lack of government accountability. He is also expected to face charges for unlawful possession of ammunition.
Mwangi’s arrest has sparked widespread condemnation, with the hashtag #FreeBonifaceMwangi. Many critics view the charges as an attempt to silence one of the government’s most vocal opponents.
