KWARA REPRESENTATIVE, RAHEEM AJULOOPIN PROPOSES BILL TO CREATE NEW LGAs, BOOST SECURITY

House of Representatives member, Raheem Ajuloopin has proposed a bill for the creation of additional Local Government Areas in Kwara State to improve grassroots governance, administrative efficiency and national security. He explained in a statement that smaller, localized councils would help overstretched local governments respond more quickly to security and development needs.
Ajuloopin also highlighted a second bill he sponsored to amend the Private Guards Companies Act, aimed at allowing private security firms to play a bigger role in security operations while enabling the police to focus on investigations and intelligence.
Kwara State has a history of attempts to expand its local government structure, including a 2014 committee set up to examine the creation of Local Council Development Areas and LCDAs briefly established in 2002 before being scrapped in 2003. The state currently operates 16 LGAs, and if Ajuloopin’s proposal is passed, it would reshape local governance by creating more administrative units, improving representation and potentially enhancing security at the grassroots.
