President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has announced the decision to reduce the price of Liquefied Petroleum Gas, LPG commonly known as cooking gas.
Speaking during a recent tour of the Lagos based refinery by members of the Lagos Business School CGEO Africa, at the refinery in Lekki, Dangote lamented the escalating price of cooking gas and its unaffordability to common people who depend on firewood for cooking.
He disclosed the refinery now produces 22,000 tonnes of LPG daily and it is ramping up production for distribution into the Nigerian market, especially as Nigerians move towards the use of gas for cooking. Dangote warned distributors to bring down the price of liquefied petroleum gas or the refinery will sell directly to the consumers
Reacting to Dangote’s move, marketers kicked against it, arguing that it is a plan to monopolize the LPG sector.
