SUDAN ARMY CHIEF ABDEL FATTAH SLAMS QUAD TRUCE PROPOSAL AMID CONFLICT

Sudan’s Sovereign Council Chairman and Army Chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has criticized a proposal put forward by the Quad Mechanism, comprising Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the United Arab Emirate (UAE), and the United States through U.S. presidential adviser for Middle East and Africa affairs, Massad Boulos.
Al-Burhan during a meeting with senior army officers revealed the proposal is “the worst document ever submitted,” claiming it seeks to dissolve Sudan’s armed forces and security agencies while allowing the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) to retain control of their positions.
The Quad’s plan, issued September 12, calls for a three-month humanitarian truce followed by a nine-month transition toward a civilian government. Burhan warned that the mediation risks losing neutrality and accused the US presidential adviser for middle east of making threats and spreading misinformation, He reiterated support for Sudan’s own government call for inclusive national dialogue and the formation of a technocratic government.
Sudan’s army chief also rejected U.S. claims of Muslim Brotherhood influence within the military and accused the RSF of genocide and ethnic cleansing.
