The crisis within the Kano Emirate took a new turn as loyalists of the deposed 15th Emir, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, allegedly clashed with palace guards at Gidan Rumfa, the official residence of the reinstated 16th Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
According to the Kano Emirate Media Team, Bayero’s supporters forced their way into the palace, injuring guards and damaging police vehicles. They accused Bayero of deliberately taking a provocative route near the palace to stir tension.
Responding to the allegation, a member of Bayero’s entourage claimed the clash was caused by unidentified hoodlums who blocked the convoy’s path near Kofar-Kudu with weapons, prompting Bayero’s supporters to clear the way before police intervened dispersing the crowd with tear gas. The Kano State Police Command has not yet issued a statement, but the incident underscores the ongoing instability surrounding the leadership tussle in the ancient city.
