UNICEF CALLS FOR URGENT ACTION AMID SUDAN CRISIS

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Executive Director, Catherine Russell has paid a visit to a boys’ school in Kassala State over severe humanitarian crisis in Sudan. The United Nation agency said an estimated 10 million people, half of them children, have been displaced since the outbreak of civil war in April 2023, with more than 150,000 reported dead.
Fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces has triggered famine, widespread sexual violence, and attacks on schools, including a recent assault on a kindergarten in South Kordofan that killed at least 63 children.
UNICEF has warned that 30 million people require urgent humanitarian assistance, particularly in besieged regions like Darfur and Kordofan. They called on all parties to immediately halt the violence and uphold international humanitarian law to protect children and civilians.
