The Restorative Justice for Africa Initiative (REJA) has trained 30 court registrars in Ogun State on proper remand proceedings to prevent prolonged detention and strengthen the protection of fundamental human rights.
In a statement made available today, REJA said the training, held on October 13, 2026, at the Ogun State Judiciary Development Centre, Judiciary Complex, Abeokuta, was organised under the Security Playbook Project of the Action Group on Free Civic Space, in collaboration with the Ogun State Judiciary and with support from the Fund for Global Human Rights.
The programme focused on improving the administration, documentation, monitoring and follow-up of remand proceedings to ensure that detention orders are properly managed and cases requiring judicial review receive timely attention.
Explaining the need for the intervention, REJA said procedural gaps in the management of remand orders could expose vulnerable individuals to prolonged and potentially unlawful detention.
