Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has established a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the longstanding communal crisis between Umuoba Anam and Aguleri communities in Anambra East Local Government Area.

The decision followed a high-level peace meeting convened by the governor in Awka after clashes between the communities resulted in deaths, injuries and the destruction of property, including the palace of a traditional ruler. Community leaders condemned the violence and called for an immediate end to hostilities.
Governor Soludo directed security agencies to maintain a round-the-clock presence in the affected areas. Stakeholders also agreed to an immediate ceasefire, prosecution of perpetrators and the rebuilding of the destroyed palace, while the judicial commission has been given four months to submit its report.
