Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo has restrained Governor Ademola Adeleke and other respondents from taking further steps towards the installation of the Olofa of Ofatedo in Egbedore Local Government Area pending the determination of a suit challenging the process.
Justice Kudirat Akano granted the restraining order following an application by Chief Ahmed Musibaudeen Ilufoye, who instituted the case on behalf of the kingmakers of the Olofa of Ofatedo stool.
The suit listed Governor Adeleke, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Egbedore Local Government and Prince Sakariyau Olabode as respondents.
At Wednesday’s proceedings, counsel to the applicant, Mr Tiamiyu Adegboyega, expressed concern over a letter appointing the fifth respondent as the Olofa of Ofatedo, which he said was issued after the suit had been filed and served on the defendants.
Adegboyega told the court that the case was instituted on October 12, while the appointment notification was dated October 26, raising questions about the decision to proceed with the installation process despite the pending litigation.
He described the development as an act of self-help and contempt of court, arguing that the issuance of the appointment letter after the commencement of the suit required the court’s intervention.
