ENUGU STATEĀ  RECORDS LOW VOTER TURNOUT IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCILS ELECTION

The Enugu State Local Government Election has recorded low voter turnout across the 17 local government areas of the state.

The election, conducted by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission, also witnessed late arrival of electoral materials at some polling units in Enugu metropolis.

Only a few voters were seen casting their ballots in areas including Trans-Ekulu, New Haven, Achara Layout and Awkunanaw, with some residents blaming poor awareness and previous election experiences for the apathy.

Governor Peter Mbah praised the peaceful conduct of citizens across the state following the exercise of his civic duty at Polling Unit 007, Mbaguzo, Ashishi Owo in Nkanu East Local government area.

the governor disclosed that he deliberately delayed his arrival at the polling unit to monitor real-time reports from across the state and properly evaluate the overall conduct of the polls.

Some voters however expressed doubts about the impact of their votes, while others urged political leaders and electoral authorities to do more to encourage participation in future local government elections.
