African Democratic Congress, ADC governorship candidate in Sokoto state, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, has raised the alarm over an alleged attempt on his life following an attack on his convoy.
Dan’iya alleged that personnel of the Sokoto Marshal and Community Guard Corps attacked his convoy around 9pm on Friday near the Sokoto Airport, shortly after he escorted former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal to the airport.
In a statement by his Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi, the candidate said the security personnel blocked his convoy, claiming they were acting on orders not to allow ADC members into the state.
He alleged that gunshots were fired, his vehicle was damaged, and two DSS officers attached to his team were detained, while he narrowly escaped.
Dan’iya said he had reported the incident to the Sokoto State Commissioner of Police and called on the Inspector-General of Police and DSS Director-General to investigate the attack and secure the release of the detained officers.
He also urged the Federal Government and other relevant authorities to protect democratic freedoms and prevent further political violence.
