IDENTITY MANAGEMENT COMMISSION DEBUNKS VIRAL NIN DATA BREACH CLAIMS

The National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, has dismissed reports alleging that Nigeria’s National Identification Number, NIN, database has been breached.

In a statement, NIMC’s Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode Adegoke, described the claim as false and unfounded, saying the video circulating on social media is a recycled report from 2024 that had already been disclaimed.

The commission said it maintains multi-layered security systems to protect the personal data of Nigerians and legal residents. NIMC also urged the public to disregard unverified claims, warning that they could cause unnecessary panic.

The commission reaffirmed its commitment to data protection and said it would continue working with relevant security agencies to strengthen its systems and combat misinformation.
