Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has fiercely defended his country’s military campaigns in Iran, Gaza and the Middle East in a speech to the UN General Assembly.
Dozens of delegates reportedly walked out of the United Nations General Assembly as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered his address in New York.
The walkout, which was reportedly encouraged by the Palestinian Mission to the UN, saw delegates from several countries leave the hall as Netanyahu began speaking.
Countries whose seats appeared empty included Saudi Arabia, Iran, Algeria, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Tunisia, Sudan and Jordan, among others, although reports noted that some countries still had representatives inside the hall.
Netanyahu criticized those who left, describing them as “phony human rights protesters,” while also attacking New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a critic of Israel’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank.
The Palestinian Mission was scheduled to address the General Assembly later in the day.
