LAGOS GOVERNOR SANWO-OLU WARNS RESIDENTS AGAINST BUILDING ON WETLANDS

LAGOS

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has warned residents and developers against building on wetlands and drainage channels, saying such practices worsen flooding and coastal erosion.

The governor, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Dr Gaji Tajudeen, gave the warning at the Nigerian Conservation Foundation’s 20th annual Walk for Nature held at Lagos State University, Ojo.

Sanwo-Olu also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to environmental sustainability, noting that enforcement of the ban on styrofoam and other single-use plastics had been ongoing since July 2025. He added that the government was working with innovators to develop sustainable alternatives and promote environmental education in schools and communities
