NANS THREATENS NATIONWIDE SHUTDOWN OVER ABDUCTIONS OF SCHOOL CHILDREN

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NAN) stated the country’s internal security system has failed in its primary responsibility of protecting citizens and ensuring safe learning environments, the association cited the ineffectiveness of the Safe School Initiative despite years of funding and promises.
NANS President Olushola Oladoja in a statement signed on Wednesday highlighted intelligence lapses, poor coordination, and leadership failures, blaming the police and security agencies for repeated terrorist attacks on schools. He called for a high-level investigation into alleged insider collaboration following the recent Kebbi school attack, where gunmen abducted 24 girls and killed the vice-principal, and a mass abduction at a school in Papiri, Niger State.
Oladoja demanded urgent reforms and accountability, warning that failure to secure schools could trigger nationwide civil disobedience, road and airport shutdowns, as well as peaceful mass demonstrations. He stressed that students’ safety was non-negotiable, saying NANS was prepared to dialogue and, if necessary, take mass civil action to protect Nigeria’s education system.
