Residents of Osogbo and its environs in Osun State have lamented losing millions of naira after a suspected fraudulent food company, known as Global Food Initiative, allegedly shut down operations.
The company reportedly opened at Odi-Olowo area of Osogbo and attracted customers with unusually cheap prices of food items, including rice, cooking oil, spaghetti, semovita and beverages. Customers were asked to pay in advance and collect their goods seven days later.
Some residents, including traders, reportedly made large payments after early customers received their orders, encouraging more people to patronise the company.
However, trouble reportedly started when several customers waited beyond the stipulated seven days without receiving their goods or getting further communication from the company.
