The Osun State House of Assembly has unanimously approved the proposed constitutional amendment to allow for the creation of state police.
The approval was given during plenary on Tuesday, following a request from the National Assembly for state legislatures to consider and approve the amendment.
The Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, said the proposal is part of the ongoing constitutional amendment process.
Supporting the proposal, lawmakers Lawrence Adeoti and Taofeek Olayiwola said state police would strengthen security and enable states to respond more effectively to security challenges.
The Assembly also considered amendments to the Osun State Park Management System Bill 2026 and adopted the proposed corrections.
