SOUTH AFRICA BIDS TO HOST 2036 OLYMPICS AS FIRST AFRICAN HOST

South Africa is seeking to become the first African country to host the Olympic Games, after being named among seven countries invited to present bids for the 2036 Olympics.

The other bidders are Qatar, India, Hungary, Turkey, Germany and South Korea. They are expected to present their proposals to the International Olympic Committee’s Future Host Commission in November.

The process will culminate in a vote to select the 2036 host city in 2029. Qatar’s bid has been widely regarded as strong, although the country would need to adjust the traditional July-August schedule because of extreme summer temperatures.
