YORUBA NATION GROUP DESCRIBES LEADER’S DEATH AS END OF AN EXTRAORDINARY POLITICAL CHAPTER

The Conscience of the Yoruba Nation Group has described the death of the National Leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation as the close of an extraordinary chapter in the political history of Yoruba land and Nigeria.

The group, in a statement issued by its convener, Abagun Kole Omololu, expressed sorrow over the loss of the revered elder statesman, educationist, pro-democracy activist and distinguished leader of Afenifere.

According to the group, Pa Fasoranti’s life was defined by an uncommon devotion to principle, abiding commitment to public service and an unwavering belief in the progressive ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

Omololu noted that with his departure, the Yoruba nation and Nigeria have lost a man whose legacy was built on consistency, integrity and service to the common good.

With the group tracing the contributions of Fasoranti to public life, it recalled his service as an educationist, his tenure as Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State under the progressive administration of Chief Michael Adekunle Ajasin, and his decades of involvement in Afenifere.

The group said these roles reflected a consistent commitment to the ideals he championed throughout his life.

The group further described Pa Fasoranti as a steadfast adherent of Awoism and one of its most committed custodians, stressing that to him, the philosophy was neither a convenient political slogan nor a legacy to be exploited for personal gain.

It added that through changing political circumstances, Pa Fasoranti remained faithful to the conviction that political leadership must be judged by its contribution to society rather than by the privileges it affords its occupants.

His integrity and steadfastness, the group said, offer a powerful contrast to a political culture in which principles are too often sacrificed at the altar of expediency.

The group noted that he belonged to a generation that understood public office as a trust, political conviction as a responsibility and honesty as an indispensable attribute of leadership.

It added that his example reminds the living that integrity is demonstrated not by what people proclaim but by the principles they uphold when compromise would be more convenient.

It further stated that his advocacy of democratic governance and genuine federalism reflected his understanding that Nigeria’s stability and prosperity depend on justice, equity and respect for the legitimate aspirations of its constituent peoples.
