At least five people have been killed and several others seriously injured in an Israeli airstrike on a residential apartment in western Gaza City.

Medical staff at Al-Shifa Hospital confirmed the casualties following the attack on the Al-Asala building in the Remal neighbourhood early Saturday.
According to reports the strike occurred in the middle of the night without prior warning, while residents were asleep.
The attack reportedly penetrated the targeted apartment and tore through several floors of the multi-storey building, causing further destruction.
Remal is one of Gaza City’s densely populated residential areas, where thousands of displaced people are sheltering in makeshift camps.
