ARMY CHIEF TASKS NEW OFFICERS TO TURN MANPOWER INTO COMBAT POWER

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged newly commissioned officers of the Direct Short Service Course, DSSC 29/2026, to maintain operational readiness and provide professional leadership.

Shaibu gave the charge on Friday at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry Parade Ground, Jaji, Kaduna State.

He said the commissioning comes as the Nigerian Army expands from eight to twelve divisions, with the recruitment of additional 28,000 soldiers.

The Army Chief urged the officers to lead by example, uphold integrity and competence, and prioritize mission accomplishment and troop welfare.

He also charged them to remain combat-ready regardless of their professional specializations, as military service may require them to undertake operational duties whenever necessary.
