The Federal Government is considering a new law to protect Nigeria’s economic reforms from being reversed by successive administrations. The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed this at the 32nd Nigerian Economic Summit in Abuja.
Oyedele said the government was seeking national consensus on an economic policy framework that could be backed by law to ensure continuity in key areas.
He explained that the proposal was aimed at preventing future administrations from abandoning economic reforms for short-term political considerations, particularly the removal of petrol subsidy.
The minister said the government is considering measures to ensure that public officials understand and comply with agreed economic principles when making policy decisions.
