ONDO HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY PASSES STATE POLICE BILL

The Ondo State House of Assembly has passed the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria Bill, 2026, seeking to establish state police services across the country.

The bill was passed during plenary on Monday after scaling its second and third readings, with all lawmakers present supporting the proposed constitutional amendment.

The House Leader, Olatunji Oshati, who moved the motion for the bill’s passage, said lawmakers had carefully considered the implications of the proposed amendment, noting that state police could help address the security challenges confronting the country.

The motion was seconded by Allen Oluwatoyin, who represents Ese-Odo Constituency.

Speaking on the development, the Speaker of the Assembly, Olamide Oladiji, described the proposed establishment of state police as long overdue.
