Following reports that five Amotekun operatives were arrested over the murder of Emir in Ile-Ife during the recent motor park crisis in Osun State, the Osun State Amotekun Corps Public Relations Officer, Mr. Yusuf Idowu, has debunked the reports. He said the three Amotekun operatives were only invited to assist the police in investigating the death of Oyeyemi Ajagbade, popularly known as Emir, following the incident.
Idowu, speaking on the Good Morning Nigeria programme on Vicinity 95.3 FM, clarified that the operatives were not arrested as widely reported on social media. He further explained that the Amotekun Corps Commander, Isaac Omoyele, voluntarily handed over four of his operatives to the police for investigation into the recent attacks in Ile-Ife, which reportedly led to the death of the Emir.
Noting that, the operatives handed over to the police were attached to the Osun factional Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Nurudeen Alowonle.
The Amotekun PRO described the circulating reports as misleading and urged members of the public and media practitioners to distinguish between arrest and voluntary handover for investigation. He called for responsible reporting and cautioned against sensationalising the matter before the conclusion of the police investigation.
