FAMILY DEMANDS JUSTICE AS MAN DIES IN OSUN POLICE CELL

The family of a 40-year-old man, Taofeek Azeez, has demanded justice following his death in police custody in Agbeye, Odo-Otin Local Government Area of Osun State.

Azeez was reportedly arrested by local vigilantes over an alleged theft of cocoa seeds and handed over to the police after being taken to the palace of the Alagbeye of Agbeye. A video circulating online showed him being flogged and paraded half-naked before his death.

The deceased’s brother, Fatai Alimi, accused the police of complicity and called for a thorough investigation.

However, the Osun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, said Azeez died by suicide in custody, adding that the officer in charge of the cell would be interrogated
