TEACHERS’ DAY: NUT LEADER CALLS FOR GREATER RECOGNITION, SUPPORT FOR TEACHERS

As the world marks Teachers’ Day, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Atakumosa East Osun State, Comrade Oyewole Samuel, has called for greater recognition and support for teachers.

Speaking on good morning Nigeria show this morning via phone call, on Vicinity 95.3 FM, he said teachers are often not adequately appreciated despite their vital role in national development. Noting that poor salaries, difficult working conditions and inadequate teaching materials remain major challenges confronting teachers. He noted that the shortage of teachers in schools is also contributing to an increased workload and affecting effective teaching and learning.

The NUT Chairman urged governments at all levels to prioritise education by paying teachers promptly, providing adequate teaching equipment and recruiting more teachers. He also appealed to parents to appreciate teachers’ efforts and work closely with them to ensure a better future for their children.
