YOUTHS PROTEST EIGHT-MONTH BLACKOUT IN EDO COMMUNITIES

Youths from Ososo, Ojah, Ijiranmi and other communities in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State have protested an eight-month power outage affecting the area.

The protesters, who marched to the Edo State Electricity Regulatory Commission and Ministry of Power in Benin, said the prolonged blackout had crippled economic activities and stalled development.

Speaking for the protesters, Bernard Gomina said several interventions had failed to resolve the problem, while another protester, Abayomi, alleged that residents had contributed money for repairs without results.

The member representing Akoko-Edo Two Constituency, Donald Okogbe, joined the protest and called for an alternative arrangement if BEDC could no longer provide reliable electricity.

Responding, the Chief Executive Officer of Edo SEBCO assured the protesters that efforts were underway to restore power, saying the technical team was already on site and electricity would be restored by Saturday.
